About the Speaker:
Bashyam Nithiyanandan is a Principal Engineer in Intel working on Client SoC architecture. He did his graduation with IISc, Bangalore and has been with Intel for over 19 years. He is currently leading SoC performance architecture for client SoCs (Lunar Lake/ Panther Lake). Nithya has expertise in memory subsystem performance and end to end performance analysis of client SoCs. He has driven multiple performance features for many generations of client SoC and driven methodology advancements in performance modelling and performance validation. Nithya’s area of expertise is in SoC performance architecture, memory technology and performance modelling.

Title of the Talk: Performance challenges in scaling memory bandwidth

Abstract: This talk explores the need for rapid scaling in memory bandwidth delivery and challenges in achieving that scaling.
This is a two-part talk.
1. First part will focus on memory technology evolution, concept of bandwidth efficiency, DRAM organization & timings and key factors limiting bandwidth efficiency culminating in a simplified analytical model for bandwidth efficiency.

His research interests are in Applied Mathematics and Computation and includes Data Mining and Analytics, Data Assimilation, Parallel Computation and Learning Algorithms. He was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE in 1993 and a Fellow of ACM in 1995. He has held short-term visiting positions in Japan, China, Taiwan, India, Germany, England, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and the USA. Since July 2019, he holds the position of George Lynn Cross Research Professor Emeritus at the School of Computer Science, OU.

The International Conference on Information Systems Security (ICISS), held annually in India, is a forum for the dissemination of research results and a place for meeting finer minds on computer security. ICISS 2022, the 18th edition of the conference, will be held at IIT Tirupati in the city of Tirupati from December 16 to 20, 2022.
